Monitor DB2 with the Technology Explorer

Technology Explorer for IBM DB2 is a nifty and light-weight monitoring console written in PHP. It's a fast and modern way to take a look at a database's internals and get a very specific idea of how things are. For example, it presents tablespace details in an accessible way.

It includes wizards and tutorials that simplify common tasks. At 1.7MB, it has a lot of value and power.

You'll need Apache and PHP with the ibm_db2 extension. A simple way to get all of the above is to [follow these steps].

  1. Hi, I've already download the Technology Explorer zip file and also the zend software (link: http://www.zend.com/download/86). I've already installed the zend, but I still don't know yet what should I do after this? Can you guide me? Thanks before..

  2. Hi, my last post are already solved. But now I have another problem using TE. I try to connect with local database (DB2) but the connection database are never appear on TE connection page, but there is no error messages.
FYI, I am using Firefox 3.0 as browser, ZendCore 2.5 (Apache 2.2, PHP 5.2), TE 3.5.
What's wrong? Can you help me?

  3. Hi Radekus,

I would no longer recommend the Zend stack as there are some issues in the latest releases. The DB2 extension it ships with is not the latest one, etc.

There's instructions of how to set up a DB2+PHP stack on Windows in this post:

  4. Hi Leon,
I still having a problem to make TE works. Now I'm using XAMPP (PHP v5.3.1, Apache 2.2), TE 3.5, FireFox 3.6. I have already add these line on php.ini:

But when I load the TEr3.5 page I have an error message (using Firefox Error Console) "$(this.elementParent) is null

And when I create new connection, the message box appear with following message "An invalid JavaScript object was return, can not complete action execution.".

    Need your advice..

  5. Hi Radekus,

Sorry to here about your difficulties. If you have the latest TE, you should see a green indicator on the bottom of the TE denoting that the IBM_DB2 driver is detected. If the indicator is green then the likely cause of the connection problem is the absence of DB2 or the DB2 client libraries on your system. To install the client libraries download the IBM Data Server Driver Package from:

As for the '$(this.elementParent) is null' this is currently a bug when the connection panel is accessed from file->Database connection... I will be putting a new package out soon that will address this. For now please use the connection panel on the main page or access the panel via the 'Connections...' menu located in the upper right hand corner of the page.
